journal entries about writing

the thing about writing is that sometimes you feel as though you have nothing to write. you think your words are not worthy enough to be put on paper. but writing is for you. it does not need to meet anyone’s standards. all that you need is a pen and a thought. we all have plenty of those. the rest will follow naturally.

when i write, i can feel all the energy inside me flowing. i feel powerful, indestructible.Ā  words are a vital part of my existence. i would be incredibly lost without them. there’s something inside me that draws me to this art form constantly. this need i have for writing is inescapable.

put the pen to the edge of the paper, my dear, and let the words flow out of you. they don’t need to be perfect, but they still deserve to be said.

my traveler’s notebook! (new journal)

*Before I begin, I just want to say I am on vacation, so the next couple of posts (including this one) are scheduled. I will reply to comments when I get back, in case you were wondering!*

There’s this new thing that I recently re-discovered called a traveler’s notebook and if you haven’t heard of it before, let me explain. Basically, it’s a book-cover that comes with elastic strings inside that you can use to add different inserts. You can put multiple journals, folders, pockets, paper, etc. inside of it and keep it together in one book.

I fell in love with the idea when I started watching some Youtube videos on it. I highly suggest looking up traveler’s notebook on youtube to understand what I’m talking about (because it is so hard to describe in text versus video).

I thought I would share how I set mine up and what I keep inside! To start, I bought a canvas cover notebook from Michaels by Jane Davenport. There are a couple of styles to choose from but I got the plain white one to decorate myself. I painted it with acrylics, and the black is with Sharpie. The paint job is obviously very mediocre, but I am happy with it.

You can get a traveler’s notebook from a variety of places, but I chose this one because it was cheaper than the original Traveler’s brand. Since I wasn’t sure if I would like using this setup, I didn’t want to invest a ton of money into it yet.

I also bought some of the Jane Davenport inserts to go with it. I got the watercolor paper because I paint a lot, and I thought I could use this for art as well as writing. I had to pick up the pockets that Jane Davenport has, too, because I want to take this along with me when I travel. With the pockets I can put some stickers and pictures inside that I want to use. I am headed to North Carolina as you read this, for a week by the ocean. This will be perfect to take all my supplies with me.

Let’s take a look at the layout now!

The first thing I started with was one of the folder inserts I mentioned earlier, and inside I put some stickers that I got from PearTeaStickers on Etsy. They were kind enough to send me some and they are absolutely gorgeous! You can see below all the supplies I got from them. Definitely make sure to check them out because I know I will be buying more from them in the future. Plus the quality is really nice.

They also sent me some journal inserts, and you can see the first one here. It is the Hip Girls one, so each page has a different image of a girl and the drawings are so stunning. I will use this one for my writing.

Then I put the watercolor paper inside so that I can paint while on my trip. I am so excited to use this to draw the scenery around me where I am staying.

In these next two pictures, you can see the back of the first folder and the front of the second one. In the back I put a couple of envelopes with little cards I received and a picture I found about creativity.

On the front pocket of the yellow folder, I included some magazine clippings I found because I use those a lot when I am journaling.

Here you can see the second notebook I got from PearTeaStickers, which is so beautiful, once again. I also have a small pocket that I got from AsianVintageTn shop, also on Etsy, as well as the grid paper notebook. They are both a little small for this Traveler’s Notebook, but it works just fine! I am going to use the grid paper as a to-do list and bullet journal! Plus, they were kind enough to send some the Midori 5th anniversary stickers which are absolutely adorable! I am so excited to use the products.

Huge thank you to both shops for supplying them! Please make sure to check them out, it would mean so much šŸ™‚

I am so happy with the way my traveler’s notebook looks, and I can not wait to begin using it this week. Let me know what you think of it šŸ™‚

{very} mini journal flip through

I received a stunning journal from Tremundo Journals a few days ago, and I absolutely had to talk about it. I chose a mini canvas notebook with a wolf print on the cover. This design really spoke to me because of the sunset and the moon in the background. Two of my favorite things. The quality is amazing. The pages are thin but my watercolor paints did not bleed through, and neither did my Staedtler pens. It is pretty small which is perfect for carrying around with you everywhere you go. Overall, it is just a really nice journal.

If you are thinking about journaling, you should check out Tremundo journals and try this one out! You can get free shipping in the US with the code “JUJ17” until July 31.

I wanted to show you guys what some of the pages I designed look like so far!

Journal With Me #3

It’s been two months since my last Journal With Me because I haven’t been doing much journaling recently. I guess I fell into a bit of a funk with inspiration and motivation recently.

I subscribed to the Vogue magazine though, and I have received three since. These gave me a lot of inspiration so I went through them and picked some of my favorites to create a bit of a vision board look for this spread!

The theme I went for in this one was yellow and pink. I overdid the left side a bit with the yellow, so it wasn’t as subtle as I wanted it to be, but I am happy with the overall outcome. Let me know if you have any questions about the steps!

I swear I will try to post more of these whenever I can! I hope you like the final product. Please let me know what you think in the comments šŸ™‚

Journal With Me #2

I did this post a while back and you guys seemed to enjoy it, so obviously I had to do it again!Ā This time I will explain the process a bit more, rather than just putting the pictures.

As per usual, I start with two empty pages, to create a spread. I lay out all my materials to see what I want to design before I start. I get some inspiration from tumblr and We Heart It, too.

I received these sticker packs from Copia Design recently, so of course I wanted to use them. They are absolutely adorable. There are stickers for every occasion, and I love the aesthetic of them. They go so well with what I do in my journal, so I will be using these a lot. Be sure to check them out!

I started with the date, like always, and watercolored side to add a pop of color. I actually didn’t like how it turned out, but I tried to fix it later on. I also added one of the stickers from Copia that says “take time for yourself” because the page was going to be about midterms and how I want to relax.

I added a piece of gridded paper I have from a notebook to cover up some of the watercolor page. I also wrote a little quote on it so it won’t be blank. I finished that page, so I added some stickers onto the next one.

I then wrote a little about midterms week, and added some washi tape!

Next, I put a picture that I cut out of a magazine to separate the top of the page from the bottom.

Then, I added some washi from a washi tape sheet I recently bought, as well as a cardboard sticker to add some details to it. I finished the page off with some more writing. I will be honest and say this is not one of my better pages, but i decided to work with it anyways and still show it to you all! Journaling is about having fun, and you are allowed to mess up! It doesn’t have to be perfect because, after all, it’s for you!

I hope this gave you some inspiration, or maybe even helped you start journaling on your own! Let me know what you think down in the comments šŸ™‚

My Favorite Journals- Notebook Collection

I know, I have been posting a lot about my journal recently but I promise this is the last post that will go up for a while. I thought I would share one last post giving you some good options for journals, because I know finding the right one can be hard. Here are a few of my favorites!

(Disclaimer: Some of these were sent to me but this post is only sponsored by Denik. I fully support their brand and their cause and really suggest checking them out! All opinions are my own)

img_3029This first one is from a brand called Lady Jayne. I could not find the same one online but I inserted the link of another cute one! I love the design of this and it is a softcover journal which is my favorite. The inside pages of all my journals are lined, this one slightly bigger than the others.

The next notebook has been featured before and it is from Pretty Little Notebooks. It has so many pages which is really nice, and it is the only spiral bound one I use. The front cover is so aesthetically pleasing, and it is very Instagram worthy!

I also have one from Denik which is one of my favorites. The pages are pretty thick, so you can use pens, markers, etc without it bleeding through. The inside cover is very cute, and you can even color it in if you wanted to! I love how many cover options there are as well, and the cover is durable enough to survive water without damage. You can even choose lined, dotted, or blank paper inside. Plus, buying one of their notebooks helps build schools in 3rd world countries!

The last one I am featuring is from Blueline. It is slightly bigger in size compared to the others, but I actually like that even more. It is great for writing in, and what’s cool is it has an index in the front. This would probably make a great bullet journal. And the back comes with stickers to use as tabs to easily locate your pages. I haven’t started using this one yet, but I really can not wait to!

Those are all the current notebooks I have/use! Hope you enjoyed this post, and don’t forget to give it a like.

Journal With Me #1

Hi everyone! My last journaling post was pretty popular, so I thought I would do another one! This is basically a step by step of how I design a page! I hope you find it helpful.

This is also a collab with the amazing lovely Gul! Check out her video she did on journaling and make sure to check out her Instagram and Twitter too! She is so talented and creative, and I really recommend checking her out. Her posts are so aesthetically pleasing, and her videos are perfect.

**The quotes are from WeHeartIt! They are not my own.

How I Use My Journal!

Hello! In today’s post I want to talk about how I use my journal, something I think is an important way to spark creativity and keep your ideas stored. I don’t write the typical “what I did today” in my journal. Mostly it is used for collecting quotes I like, writing blog post ideas, random thoughts, poems, and bits and pieces of memories.

It is helpful to release thoughts I wouldn’t share on my blog, or things that wouldn’t make sense for a blog post. So how do I write in/decorate it?

Here is how the decorated pages of my journal look (I blurred out some personal stuff). A lot of times I will decorate a page with just a picture from magazines or pictures that I printed out and nothing else. Or I fill a page with just writing. I also use a lot of stickers, washi tape, and watercolors.

I vary between pages of all writing which are pretty boring so I didn’t include them, and pages like the ones above which are full of color.

As for the things I write, here is a listĀ of them to get you inspired:

  • favorite quotes
  • song lyrics
  • lists (things to read, things I want to do that day)
  • letters I would never send
  • goals (monthly, weekly)
  • poems
  • things that make me happy
  • rants when I am stressed
  • ideas for blog posts
  • workout plans
  • memories I remember
  • playlists

IĀ haveĀ a box of stuff to put inside my journal, so I collectĀ random paper, notes, quotes, tickets, etc. These are all good for filling up the journal and decorating the pages. I also have a lot of notes on my phone of quotes I heard or things I want to put in my journal but don’t have it on me. I then transfer those things later on into the journal.

I also get a lot of inspiration from youtube videos and tumblr. I highly recommend Daniela Daisies, Stories For Coffee, Jenna Alexis, and Gu/Beyaz’s videos! They have really amazing ones that are worth the watch and aren’t too long.

The pastelĀ stickers that I have a lot of packs of are from May Designs! They are the most adorable things in the world. I have both theĀ planner pack and the teacher one. They are perfect to fill in little spaces, and I am excited to try them out. There are stickers of plants, food, words, etc.

May Designs was kind enough to send me some goodies, but they also have cute planners and notebooks that you can customize yourself! Be sure to check them out šŸ™‚

The other set of stickers which has some missingĀ (because I already used them) is from Michaels! They are made of cardboard so they pop out a bit on the page. It was the friendship pack but a lot of the stickers are good for anything. I couldn’t find them on the website, but I am sure you can find similar ones anywhere online.

Here is the front of my journal! I had it for so long but didn’t start regularly writing in it until May. I decorated the front with washi tape and cute pictures I printed out. Try experimenting with different sized journals and different styles (spiral or not, etc). This one was the perfect size for me because I can carry it around easily if needed.

It has gotten so full already and I still have a lot of pages to go! I am excited to see what else goes inside.

I hope this was helpful, and maybe inspired you to start your own journal!
